After years of diligent effort, the 2021 Gaming Compact Amendment is moving forward with the San Carlos Apache Tribe’s support. Since 2016, the Tribe has been negotiating a new gaming compact amendment with the Arizona Governor’s office. The Tribe established a Gaming Negotiations Team led by Chairman Terry Rambler, Vice Chairman Tao Etpison, Attorneys Steve Titla and Alex Ritchie, Gaming Enterprise CEO Matt Olin, and Gaming Enterprise Board Chairman Myron Moses. Gov. Doug Ducey on Thursday signed historic agreements with Native American tribes in Arizona that mark the most significant update to gambling in the state in decades. The U.S. Forest Service has withdrawn the final environmental impact statement for a huge copper mine near Superior, temporarily halting a land swap that would have given the mine's owners title to a parcel deemed sacred by many Apaches and other Southwestern tribes. In a statement released Monday, Tonto National Forest said the federal government had received significant input from many parties after the release of the final environmental impact statement on Jan. 15. The total active cases for the Tribe have gone down to zero.  On Monday March 15, 2021, at its special Council meeting, the Council approved TERC’s request to discontinue using the Apache Gold Casino Hotel as an alternate care site due to the stabilization of new infections and the spread of the virus.  This will be effective March 31, 2021.  The Healthcare Corporation advises that everyone needs to continue wearing their masks and practicing cleanliness.  The Tribe hopes to reach herd immunity by April of next month.
